GCSE German Revision Course (Y9)

Service Description

Our intensive Year 9 German Summer Course is designed to give students a strong and confident start to their GCSE German studies. The transition to GCSE brings greater demands in grammar, vocabulary and independent language production, and this course helps students establish the foundations they will need from the outset. We consolidate the most important material from previous years, address gaps in students' knowledge and introduce key elements of the GCSE course ahead of the new academic year. Taught by Andrea, an experienced native German tutor, the course combines systematic language development with focused practice across all four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Rather than simply revisiting topics students have already encountered at school, lessons encourage students to use German more accurately, confidently and independently, preparing them for the increased expectations of GCSE-level study. Grammar and Accuracy Developing a strong grammatical foundation early is one of the most effective ways to prepare for GCSE German. We will revise and introduce key areas including: German tenses and how to use them correctly Word order and German sentence structure The four cases and their functions Prepositions and case usage Writing and Exam Skills Students will learn how to move beyond short, simple sentences and begin producing more accurate, varied and sophisticated written German. We will work on developing and extending answers, expressing and justifying opinions, using a wider range of vocabulary and grammatical structures, and introducing the techniques that will eventually be required for the higher GCSE grades. Speaking and Confidence The course places particular emphasis on developing students' confidence in speaking German spontaneously. Students will practise answering questions, describing situations, expressing opinions and extending their responses rather than relying solely on prepared answers. We will also introduce students to the types of speaking tasks they will encounter during their GCSE course, helping them become comfortable with the format well before their final examination year. By the end of the course, students should begin Year 9 with a stronger grammatical foundation, greater confidence across all four skills and a clear understanding of what will be expected of them at GCSE. All course materials are included, and recordings of every Zoom session will be provided.
