Service Description

Our Year 12 A-Level German course is designed to help students make a confident and successful transition from GCSE to A-Level German. The step up to A-Level can be significant, with more demanding grammar and vocabulary, longer and more complex texts, greater emphasis on independent expression, and the introduction of literary and film analysis. Our weekly course provides the structure and expert support students need to adjust to these new demands and build strong foundations for Year 13. Taught by an Oxford-educated native German tutor with over 25 years of teaching experience and a track record of 95% A/A results*, the course provides comprehensive preparation across all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas), and is suitable for Year 12 students without a native-speaking German background. Throughout Year 12, students systematically develop all four key language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – while consolidating GCSE knowledge and progressing towards the much higher linguistic standard expected at A-Level. Particular emphasis is placed on mastering advanced grammar, significantly expanding vocabulary and developing the accuracy and sophistication of written and spoken German required for the highest grades. Students are also introduced to the key requirements of the A-Level examinations, including Paper 1 language skills and translation, Paper 2 (especially the films), and speaking preparation. We teach students how to move beyond the more descriptive work expected at GCSE and develop the analytical, argumentative and independent language skills that are essential for success at A-Level. Our aim in Year 12 is not simply to keep students on track with their schoolwork, but to establish the linguistic and analytical foundations required for an A or A* by the end of Year 13. Starting this process early gives students considerably more time to address gaps in grammar and vocabulary, develop confidence in speaking and translation, and learn how to approach their film or literary text effectively. Students can therefore begin building their A-Level German systematically from the start of Year 12, establishing the skills, knowledge and confidence they will need before progressing to our Year 13 course. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this course. We look forward to hearing from you.
