Preparing for GCSE German exam can be a very challenging experience for a number of reasons. Not only is German widely considered to be one of the most difficult European languages, it is also a tougher subject to excel in compared to many others. Worse still, German is often taught fairly poorly at schools, leaving students unmotivated and without the individual support they need in order to well in their final exams. That’s where my teaching experience proves to be an invaluable asset. I know how to establish a connection with my students and convince them that together we can get them to the top grade. I have also written a blog post on how to get grade 9 in GCSE German, which you might want to check out.
I'm Jens Olesen, the founder and director of Olesen Tuition- one of the UK's leading German language schools. We offer effective exam preparation for GCSE German- either one-on-one or with our small group classes. Having been educated at RWTH Aachen, the London School of Economics, and the University of Oxford, I have over 25 years of experience in preparing students for German GCSE and IGCSE and a thorough understanding of what is required to do well, irrespective of the exam board.
GCSE German Tuition with an Excellent Native Tutor
Track Record of my GCSE German Tutoring
Over 95% of my students studying toward GCSE German have achieved a grade 9 A* with an average preparation time of three to nine months of weekly German tuition. So how would I prepare you for your GCSE German exams?
While I deploy similar strategies to those laid out on my methods page, my focus lies on getting the best possible result in your GCSE exam. I tailor texts and grammar exercises relevant to your specific GCSE papers, run through past papers with you to explain typical questions and requirements, and give you advice on how to achieve full marks in all parts of your exam. Especially German grammar can be tough for students to grasp, but my explanations will ensure that you master every grammar topic- from the use of German articles to German word order. Having prepared thousands of students for GCSE German, I am confident that my approach works.
We also prepare students for GCSE German exams as an outside option if their schools do not offer German and offer general German courses for teenagers who are interested to learn the language without preparing for any exam. Enhanced DBS and references upon request.
Terms and conditions
Private GCSE German tuition
Please note that my private tuition is subject to a 24-hour cancellation policy. In the event of a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice, the full fee will be charged.
GCSE German Courses
In order to guarantee that the classes can run as planned, we ask students to firmly commit to a block of five dates at a time that correspond with their payment for five classes. Failure to attend the classes on those five dates means that the full classes fee will be charged. One of the classes can be rescheduled free of charge within one calendar month if attendance is cancelled with more than 24 hours' notice. Otherwise, the full fee for that class will be deducted from the advance payment. Unfortunately, deposits are non-refundable.
Once students have signed up for a course, they stay enrolled until they inform us by email of their wish to withdraw from the course and terminate the contract. Otherwise, their attendance automatically renews in blocks of five classes. The assumption is that students attend all classes unless they inform us otherwise.

Mabel, GCSE German
My daughter did her GCSE this year. She tried few tutors before, finally she decided to stay with Jens. The lessons with Jens are never boring but useful. Her marks jumped from 70 and to over 90 after one year of lessons with Jens. In the end, she got a 9. Highly recommend Jens for teaching German.
Richard K., GCSE and A-Level German
Jens is simply excellent. We have used him for my son's GCSE and A-level, and he is unwaveringly perfectionist, 100% professional and very easy to deal with. His teaching is comprehensive, covering written and spoken German and examination curricula in all detail.
Isabelle, GCSE and A-Level German
I highly recommend Jens Olesen as a German tutor. Our son Paul has been tutored by Jens for both his GCSE and A level in German. Jens has done a stellar job preparing Paul, enabling him to achieve A* grades in both exams. While being methodical and clear in the way he teaches, Jens also makes lessons a lot of fun which is so important. Paul always looked forward to his Sunday evening Skype call with Jens. Thank you very much for all your hard work, Jens!
