Service Description

Our Year 13 A-Level German course provides comprehensive, structured preparation for students throughout their final A-Level year. The course runs continuously from September until the final A-Level German examination (Paper 2/Component 3) at the end of May, supporting students at every stage of their preparation. Taught by an Oxford-educated native German tutor with over 25 years of teaching experience and a track record of 95% A/A* results, the course covers everything students need to succeed in their A-Level German exams, across all major exam boards. Throughout the year, students develop and refine all four key language skills– listening, reading, writing and speaking– while systematically revising the grammar and vocabulary required for top-level performance. As the examinations approach, lessons become increasingly exam-focused, with extensive practice of translation, essay writing, speaking and exam technique. Preparation includes all key areas of the A-Level syllabus, including Paper 1 language skills, translation, Paper 2 literary texts and films, and speaking/IRP preparation. Students learn not only the required content but also how to apply their knowledge effectively under examination conditions and meet the assessment criteria for the highest grades. The course is particularly suitable for Year 13 students without a native-speaking German background and caters to all exam boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, and Eduqas specifications. While the weekly course provides a strong foundation for consistent progress throughout Year 13, our experience has shown that students achieve the greatest success in securing an A or A* when weekly group classes are combined with private tuition. Individual lessons allow us to target each student's particular areas for improvement and provide personalised support with their chosen film or literary text, speaking examination, IRP and written work. Students can therefore use the weekly course as the backbone of their A-Level preparation, with private lessons added where needed for more intensive, individual support– providing comprehensive preparation from the beginning of Year 13 right through to the final exam in May.
